The Yamazaki Mazak Museum of Art holds a rare collection of works from some very famous artists dating over a period of two hundred years. These works include the French Rococo period, Romanticism, Neo-Classicism , Realism, Impressionism and more.
The building itself is a very modern and sleek design with the gallery being located on the 4th and 5th floor. When stepping into this museum one could forget they are in Japan! The high walls are decorated in lavish European style decoration with bright red wallpaper and detailed chandeliers. The museum also boasts a collection of furnitures and glasswares from the early 20th century.
Although a rather small collection, it’s very unique for Japan and for anyone interested in the works of Europe, this is a great little escape.
To reach the Yamazaki Mazak Museum of Art, take the subway to Shin-Sakaemachi on the Higashiyama line and head out of exit 1.
